The death toll in Lebanon from Israeli attacks, which erupted violently in early March, has risen to 2,509, while Israel and the Hezbollah group continue to attack each other despite a ceasefire agreement.
On 26 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Lebanon's Ministry of Health revealed that deaths from Israeli attacks, which flared up again on 2 Mar, have risen to at least 2,509, with an additional 7,755 injured.
Israel's attacks began after Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israel just two days following U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, a key supporter of the group, igniting a Middle East conflict impacting global energy markets.
The 10-day ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah took effect on 17 Apr, and U.S. President Donald Trump announced an extension of the ceasefire by another three weeks on Thursday, 23 Apr.
However, Israel announced a renewed offensive against Hezbollah on Saturday after multiple rocket and drone attacks came from Lebanon targeting Israel. On Sunday, Benjamin Netanyahu said Hezbollah's actions are undermining the ceasefire agreement.
Hezbollah argued that its bombardment of targets in Israel is a “legitimate retaliation” against Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement.
Additionally, the group criticized the Lebanese government, stating it is “leading itself into a dangerous situation by deciding to pose for disgraceful photos alongside representatives of an illegal and usurping organization that violates sovereignty over the land and continues to massacre its own people.”
