Iranian Delegation Leaves Pakistan for Russia to Meet Putin Amid Uncertain US-Iran Peace Talks

Iran's foreign minister departed Islamabad heading to Russia to meet President Vladimir Putin on Monday amid uncertainties in the Iran-US peace talks.

On 27 April 2026, Abbas Araghchi, Iran's foreign minister, left Islamabad for Russia to meet President Vladimir Putin amid uncertain peace negotiations between Iran and the United States.

Iranian state media reported that Araghchi will meet with Russian leaders and senior officials to assess the latest developments in negotiations, ceasefire efforts, and regional developments, after completing two visits to Pakistan within 48 hours.

This trip comes as hopes for direct negotiations between the US and Iran fade, following US President Donald Trump's cancellation of plans to send a delegation to Pakistan.

Previously, Araghchi met with key intermediaries in Pakistan and Oman but indicated it remains unclear whether the US is serious about diplomatic efforts.

Meanwhile, Trump stated that talks can still proceed by phone, emphasizing that if Iran wants to talk, it can contact the US directly, and he believes the war will end soon.

At the same time, Iran's ambassador to Pakistan expressed gratitude to Pakistani leaders for their mediation efforts to end the ongoing tense conflict in the Middle East.
