Kim Jong Un Welcomes Russian Delegation to Jointly Open North Korean Military Museum Honoring War Sacrifices in Ukraine Conflict

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un welcomed a Russian delegation visiting Pyongyang to participate in the opening ceremony of a museum honoring soldiers who died in the Ukraine war.

On 27 April 2026, the Korean Central News Agency reported that Kim Jong Un, North Korea's supreme leader, received a Russian delegation visiting Pyongyang to attend the opening ceremony of a museum commemorating North Korean soldiers who died in the Ukraine war.

The report stated that the museum is called the “Museum of Combat Heroism in Overseas Military Operations,” established to honor North Korean soldiers who died while supporting Russia in the war against Ukraine. Previously, North Korea sent about 15,000 troops to assist Russia after Kim Jong Un and Vladimir Putin signed a strategic cooperation agreement in June 2024.

The report also noted that on 26 April last year, Russia announced it had successfully recaptured the Kursk region from Ukrainian forces, with North Korean soldiers participating in the operation.
