Two trains collided head-on in the suburbs of Jakarta, Indonesia, resulting in four deaths and dozens of injuries. Authorities are working to rescue people who may still be trapped in the train wreckage.

Foreign news agencies reported that two trains collided in Bekasi, a suburban area adjacent to Jakarta, Indonesia, shortly after midnight on Monday, 27 Apr 2026 GMT+7. The incident has caused at least four deaths and injured dozens of people.

Karina Amanda, spokesperson for the train service company involved, told Reuters that the collision occurred at Bekasi train station between a short-distance train and a long-distance train. She added, “We are currently focusing on evacuating passengers and train staff.”

Anne Perba, spokesperson for Indonesian Railways, told Kompas TV that four people have died and 38 injured victims have been taken to nearby hospitals.

“Since evacuation and rescue efforts are ongoing, the number of casualties may rise. However, we hope the operation will be completed as soon as possible,” said Sofmi Dasko Ahmad, Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, speaking to reporters at the scene.

Sofmi also said that rescue teams are using cutting tools to dismantle the train wreckage to assist at least six or seven people still trapped inside.
