The White House has dismissed conspiracy theories alleging that Donald Trump staged an attempt to assassinate himself, calling the accusations baseless.
On 27 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Davis Ingle, White House spokesperson, responded to circulating rumors about a conspiracy theory claiming President Donald Trump staged his own assassination attempt during a White House press party on Saturday night, describing the claims as completely absurd.
Whitney Phillips, a scholar from the University of Oregon, explained that during crises or unclear events, people tend to create stories to make sense of what happened. However, in an era of fragmented information, this can lead to further distorted understandings.
The conspiracy theory resurged, linking to the 2024 assassination attempt on Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, which had previously faced similar suspicions. Experts warn that spreading unsubstantiated information may increase societal confusion and further obscure the overall picture of the event.
