U.S. to Issue Special Passport Featuring Donald Trump to Celebrate 250th Independence Anniversary

The U.S. Department of State is preparing to issue a special edition passport featuring President Donald Trump's portrait inside the booklet to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.

On 29 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. State Department officials revealed plans to issue a special passport printed with President Donald Trump's portrait. It will initially be available at the Washington passport office for those renewing passports in person, while online and other offices will continue using the standard design.

CNN reported that according to the released prototype, Trump's portrait along with a gold signature will appear inside the passport cover, while the back cover will feature John Trumbull's painting of the Declaration of Independence.

Tommy Pigott, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, said the special edition passport will retain the usual high security standards and add unique designs and illustrations to celebrate this significant national milestone. The Trump-themed passports will begin distribution this summer, though the production quantity has not been disclosed.

Previously, the U.S. government issued various commemorative items for the 250th anniversary, such as a special national park pass featuring Trump alongside George Washington, and coins bearing Trump's image. Currently, the standard U.S. passport features a painting by Francis Scott Key, the author of the national anthem's lyrics, inside the front cover along with excerpts from the anthem.
