US Department of Defense officials disclosed that the military has spent over 819 billion baht on the war against Iran since the conflict began two months ago.
On 29 Apr 2026 GMT+7, Jules "Jay" Hurst, a senior financial official at the Pentagon, informed members of Congress on Wednesday that the US military had spent approximately 25 billion dollars (around 819 billion baht) on the war with Iran since it began on 28 Feb GMT+7.
Hurst told the House Armed Services Committee that most of the budget was spent on munitions, as well as on maintenance and procurement of replacement military equipment.
The actual US war expenditure on Iran has become a heated political issue as Congress is considering a new 1.5 trillion dollar defense budget request for fiscal year 2027, proposed by President Donald Trump's administration.
Representative Adam Smith, the Democratic leader of the committee, responded to Hurst saying, “I’m glad you answered this question because we have been asking for a long time and no one ever provided us with these figures.”
To date, 13 US military personnel have died in combat with Iran. Both sides are currently in a very fragile ceasefire phase and are seeking ways to negotiate an end to the war.
