Donald Trump said the wars in Iran and Ukraine might end around the same time after he spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On 29 Apr 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump told CNN reporters in the Oval Office at the White House that the wars in Iran and Ukraine could conclude within a "similar timeframe" after a phone discussion lasting more than 1.5 hours with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
CNN's Kaitlan Collins asked Trump which war would end first, to which the U.S. leader replied, "Which war will end first? Maybe they will both end within a similar timeframe."
Trump said, "I think Ukraine has already been militarily defeated," but CNN noted that Trump appeared to misspeak and likely meant to refer to Iran, as he went on to discuss Iran's navy.
"You wouldn't know this if you only read fake news, but militarily, look—there were 159 ships, and now every single one has sunk, which is quite good... It's now difficult for them to rebuild a navy. Do you think they will do well without a navy, air force, or even air defense systems?"
Trump stated he spoke "a little" with Putin about Iran, but the main focus of their conversation was Ukraine. He concluded, "I think we will find a solution quickly. I hope so, and I believe we want an outcome that benefits all parties."
