Iranian Officials Predict Possible New Round of Fighting After Trumps Displeasure with Proposal

Senior Iranian military officials predict the possibility of renewed fighting with the United States after Donald Trump expressed dissatisfaction with their proposal and accused the U.S. of failing to keep its promises.

On 2 May 2026, a senior Iranian military officer stated that a new wave of conflict between the U.S. and Iran "is likely to occur" just hours after President Donald Trump said he was "not pleased" with Iran's new negotiation proposal.

The war between the U.S.-Israel alliance and Iran, which began on 28 February, has been temporarily halted since 8 April following a ceasefire agreement. However, subsequent negotiations to end the war have failed, and so far there is no sign that both sides will resume talks for a second time.

Tehran government media reported that Iran sent a draft of its new proposal to Pakistan, acting as an intermediary, on the evening of Thursday, 30 April, without detailing the contents before Pakistan forwarded it to the U.S. side.

However, Trump later told reporters, "At this time, I am not satisfied with what they have presented," blaming the stalled negotiations on "severe internal conflicts" within Iran's leadership.

"Do we want to crush them completely and end them forever, or do we want to try to make a deal?" Trump added, saying he "does not want to choose" the first option "from a humanitarian perspective."

Later, during an evening speech at an event in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump said it might be "better" if no deal is reached with Iran, adding, "Because we cannot let this go on any longer. It has dragged on too long already."

The following Saturday morning, Mohammad Jafar Azadi, a key figure in Iran's Central Army Command, stated, "A new round of conflict between Iran and the U.S. is likely to occur... Evidence shows that the U.S. has not adhered to any contracts or agreements at all."
