Israel Approves Plan to Purchase F-35 and F-15 Fighter Jets from Lockheed and Boeing

Israeli authorities have approved a plan to purchase F-35 and F-15 fighter jets from U.S. companies Lockheed Martin and Boeing to enhance military strength and prepare for future challenges.

On 3 May 2026, Israel's Ministry of Defense announced that the country has given final approval for a plan to acquire two new fighter squadrons, consisting of advanced F-35 and F-15IA jets from Lockheed Martin and Boeing, under a multi-billion-dollar agreement.

The agreement, approved by Israel's government procurement committee, marks the first step in a 350 billion shekel plan (about 3.86 trillion baht). The committee stated this aims to strengthen Israel's military power and “ensure readiness in the face of a challenging decade for Israel's security.”

The statement added that these new squadrons will form a crucial foundation for developing the military's long-term capabilities to confront regional threats and maintain Israel's strategic air superiority.

“Beyond urgent procurement needs during wartime, we have a duty to act now to guarantee the Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) military edge for the next decade and beyond,” said Amir Baram, Director General of the Ministry of Defense.

Baram further noted that the recent conflict with Iran “reinforced the importance of the strategic relationship between the U.S. and Israel, and highlighted how essential a modern air force remains.”

Under this agreement, Israel will purchase a fourth squadron of F-35 jets from Lockheed Martin and a second squadron of F-15IA fighter jets from Boeing.

Last December, Boeing received an $8.6 billion contract from Israel, which includes 25 new F-15IA aircraft and options to purchase an additional 25 units.

Baram stated that the next step is to finalize agreements with the U.S. government and military partners.
