Donald Trump warned that Iran's military would be completely wiped off the face of the earth if it targets U.S. ships in the Strait of Hormuz, as the U.S. is conducting operations to escort vessels out of these waters.
On 4 May 2026, President Donald Trump gave a telephone interview to Fox News, issuing a warning to Iran's military that they would be “wiped out from the earth” if they attempted to attack U.S. ships in the Strait of Hormuz or the Persian Gulf.
Trump also said that Iranian negotiators are currently showing a much more conciliatory attitude compared to before.
Previously, Trump had issued similar threats, including a social media post last month stating that “all civilization will be destroyed,” but this time the threat comes alongside military operations that test the fragile ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
On Monday afternoon, the president stated via Truth Social that the military had “destroyed” seven Iranian ships in the strait after Tehran targeted other vessels attempting to pass through, which resulted in damage to cargo ships linked to South Korea.
Additionally, Trump told Fox News he sees two options moving forward: either sincerely reaching an agreement or resuming military operations.
Furthermore, Donald Trump announced the start of “Project Freedom,” deploying military ships into the Persian Gulf to escort cargo ships that have been stranded since the war with Iran began, while Iran has vowed a strong response.
