Iran Announces It Is Considering New Proposal from the U.S.

Iranian authorities revealed they are currently reviewing a new proposal from the United States and will send their response through Pakistan soon, amid hopes that both parties can reach an agreement to end their war.

On 6 May 2026, Iran announced it is considering a new proposal from the U.S. following reports that Washington and Tehran governments are close to finalizing a one-page Memorandum of Understanding to end their conflict, leaving complex issues like Iran's nuclear program for later discussions.

According to Iran's ISNA news agency, a spokesperson from Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they will send their response to the new proposal shortly through Pakistan, the sole host of peace talks in this conflict and the main intermediary conveying messages between the two sides.

President Donald Trump posted a message in the early morning local time without detailing the proposal, stating the war could end if “Iran agrees to deliver what has been agreed upon.” He later told the New York Post it is still too early to consider face-to-face meetings for signing an agreement.

Sources from Pakistan and those familiar with the negotiations confirmed reports by Axios that the one-page Memorandum of Understanding contains 14 points aimed at officially ending the war.

If a preliminary agreement is reached, sources said further discussions will cover opening shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, lifting U.S. sanctions on Iran, and negotiating limits on Iran's nuclear program. A source confirmed, “We will close this deal soon. We are close to that point.”
