Donald Trump threatened Iran that attacks would resume and be more severe if both sides fail to reach an agreement, amid reports that the U.S. and Iran are moving closer to a deal.
On 6 May 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a new warning to Iran, stating that if both sides cannot reach an agreement, "the bombing will begin" with severity and intensity "beyond what has been seen before."
Trump stated on Truth Social, "If Iran agrees to deliver what was agreed upon—which might be a big assumption—the legendary 'Epic Fury' operation will end, and the highly effective blockade will open the Strait of Hormuz to everyone, including Iran."
"But if they do not agree, the bombing will commence, and sadly, its violence and intensity will be much greater than before."
Although the president left room for negotiations, saying it would mark the end of military operations against Iran, he added it might be a "major guess" whether both sides will truly reach an agreement.
However, Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State, told reporters yesterday that the 'Epic Fury' operation has already ended. "The operation has ended. Regarding 'Epic Fury,' as the president informed Congress, we have passed that stage."
