US Military Fires on Iranian-Flagged Oil Tanker Attempting to Enter Port

The US military fired shots at an Iranian-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman while the vessel was attempting to head to an Iranian port, rendering the ship inoperable.

On 6 May 2026, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) revealed that the military had disabled an Iranian-flagged oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman by firing several rounds at its rudder using a fighter jet after the ship tried to sail toward an Iranian port.

CENTCOM stated on X that the oil tanker “M/T Hasna” was navigating in international waters heading to an Iranian port in the Gulf of Oman. US forces issued multiple warnings that the ship was violating the ongoing US maritime blockade measures.

“After the Hasna’s crew failed to comply with repeated warnings, the US military decided to disable the tanker’s rudder by having a F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter jet, launched from the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, fire multiple 20mm cannon rounds at it,” CENTCOM said.

CENTCOM further stated, “The Hasna can no longer proceed to Iran.”

This incident occurred amid sporadic clashes between the US and Iran in recent days despite a ceasefire being in effect for nearly a month. US officials confirmed on Tuesday that the ceasefire agreement remains valid.

However, General Dan Kene, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said in a Tuesday press conference that Iran has attacked US forces more than 10 times since the ceasefire began.

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump posted on social media Tuesday night that although diplomatic talks between Iran and the US have progressed, he will continue enforcing the blockade on Iranian ports.
