Donald Trump revealed that the United States has had very good talks with Iran in the past 24 hours and confirmed there is no deadline for when Iran will respond to the latest U.S. proposal.
On 6 May 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump said the United States has had "very good talks" with Iran in the past 24 hours, and reiterated that no deadline has been set for when he expects a response from the Tehran government regarding the U.S. peace proposal.
"We are in a good position," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House on Wednesday. "We are doing well now, and we must get what we deserve. If we don't get that, we will need to take a bigger step. But all that said, they also want to make a deal."
Trump added, "It is very likely that we will be able to reach an agreement."
When asked if there is a deadline for waiting for Iran's response to the latest U.S. proposal, Trump indicated the timeframe remains open: "There is no deadline. We'll wait and see. It will happen, but there is no deadline."
Additionally, Trump reiterated that Iran has accepted his main demand that Iran will not possess nuclear weapons.
"Iran will not have nuclear weapons, and they won't have them, which they have agreed to, along with other issues," the U.S. president said. However, so far there has been no clear indication that Iran has either accepted or rejected any of the points.
