Heavy rain lasting more than an hour caused repeated flooding in several areas of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya. Many roads were submerged, traffic was heavily congested, and some vehicles were flooded up to their wheels.
On 6 May 2026, Malaysia's The Star news agency reported that continuous heavy rain began around 15:30 and lasted over an hour, leading to flash floods in multiple areas of Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Section 51A in Petaling Jaya was severely impacted, marking a second flooding event within just two weeks after a similar incident on 20 April.
A video circulated on social media showed a resident swimming in the floodwaters, while Amway’s headquarters building on Jalan 223 in Petaling Jaya was also reported to be flooded. Additionally, Jalan Kuchai Lama in Kuala Lumpur faced repeated flooding, having experienced similar issues in the same area back in 2022.
Images from the area showed water overflowing from drainage pipes, flooding walkways in front of several shops along Jalan Sepadu in the Taman United neighborhood. New Pantai Expressway company issued a statement clarifying that the flooding occurred on Jalan Kuchai Lama heading toward Jalan Tengah Lama, which is under the jurisdiction of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall, not on the NPE expressway as previously reported.
However, patrol officers were dispatched to assist with traffic management to ensure safety and help clear vehicles in the affected area. Water levels had receded to normal by 16:47, allowing traffic to flow again.
Meanwhile, flooding on the Kesas Expressway near the Awam Besar toll plaza caused traffic from Kinrara into the city center to come to a standstill. Social media videos showed numerous cars near the Jalan Tengah Lama-Bukit Jalil exit submerged up to their wheels, with some vehicles stranded in the water beneath a bridge connecting high-rise buildings.
Additionally, areas near the Awam Besar train station experienced flooding under the pedestrian bridge, while all four lanes of Jalan Awam Besar in front of a supermarket were covered by mud, completely blocking the road.
