U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that the ceasefire agreement with Iran remains in effect, despite recent clashes between forces from both sides in the Strait of Hormuz.
On 7 May 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump told domestic media that the ceasefire agreement made with Iran is still valid, even though just hours earlier, U.S. and Iranian forces exchanged fire in the Strait of Hormuz.
"The ceasefire is still ongoing. It remains in effect," Trump told Rachel Scott from ABC News in a phone interview, adding that the retaliatory strike was merely a "light nudge hello."
Earlier, the U.S. conducted military strikes on Iranian facilities on Thursday local time, claiming the action was in retaliation for Iran attacking a U.S. warship passing through the Strait of Hormuz without provocation.
Meanwhile, an Iranian military spokesperson claimed earlier that day that the U.S. violated the ceasefire agreement by targeting an Iranian oil tanker headed toward the Strait of Hormuz.
