The Chinese government confirmed that Donald Trump will visit their country from 13 to 15 May, with scheduled talks with President Xi Jinping on multiple issues.
On Monday, 11 May 2026, the Chinese government confirmed that U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to visit China from 13 to 15 May. The U.S. leader is expected to discuss several contentious issues with China, ranging from customs tariffs to the Middle East conflict and Taiwan.
Originally, Trump planned to visit in late March or early April, but the schedule was postponed due to the war in the Middle East.
"At the invitation of President Xi Jinping, President Donald J. Trump of the United States will make an official state visit to the People's Republic of China as a state guest from 13 to 15 May," a spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
Reports state that Trump will arrive in Beijing on Wednesday, before beginning talks on Thursday and Friday. This will be his first visit to China since 2017 and the first meeting between Trump and Xi Jinping in six months.
It is anticipated that the U.S. and China will agree to establish a forum to facilitate trade and investment between the two nations. China is also expected to announce purchases related to Boeing aircraft, American agricultural products, and energy.
Officials added that plans to establish formal trade and investment committees may be announced during the meeting. However, these mechanisms will require further steps before they can be fully implemented.
Additionally, both countries will discuss extending the "ceasefire" in their trade war, which would allow the U.S. to continue importing rare earth minerals from China. However, it remains unclear whether this agreement will be renewed within the week.
