Trump Reveals Iran Ceasefire Agreement Is on Life Support

Donald Trump confirmed that the ceasefire with Iran remains in effect but has weakened to the point of requiring life support, while accusing Iran of breaking the agreement and changing its position repeatedly, resulting in the deal's failure so far.

On 11 May 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed questions about the Iran war while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office of the White House, stating that the current ceasefire agreement with the Tehran government is "on heavy life support."

Iran and the U.S. have clashed several times in the Strait of Hormuz in recent weeks. Although Trump said the ceasefire remains valid, he described it as incredibly fragile. "I can tell you that this ceasefire is on heavy life support," he said.

Trump also accused Iran of violating the agreement that allowed the U.S. to remove enriched uranium stockpiles. "They agreed two days ago... but then they changed their minds because they did not include this in the documents," he said.

The U.S. leader claimed that in negotiations leading to the new U.S. proposal to end the war, Iran told Washington it would surrender the enriched uranium, but the U.S. would have to handle the removal itself.

"They told me, first of all, you will get it, but you must come and take it yourself," Trump said, referring to uranium buried under the nuclear base the U.S. bombed last year. "That area was so devastated that only one or two countries in the world can retrieve it."

However, despite these discussions, Trump said Iran did not include this agreement in the latest documents sent to the U.S. "They never got to that point. They agreed with us and then withdrew their statement," he said.

Trump further accused Iran's leaders of frequently "changing their minds" just as negotiations seemed close to agreement on various issues. "Listen, I have dealt with them four or five times. They keep changing their minds... these leaders are completely dishonorable," he said.

"In business, I've encountered this many times—you know how people's minds can change," Trump said. He explained that both sides appeared ready to "reach an agreement," but the next day Iran sent documents that took five days to arrive, though they should have arrived in 20 minutes.

"You know, it was a very simple document," he added. "It stated that they must never possess nuclear weapons."

Trump said the Iranian leadership is now split into two groups: the "moderates" and the "hardliners," noting that "the moderates are very eager to reach a deal."

"You have both moderates and hardliners. I think the moderates have more support, while the hardliners want to fight to the death," Trump said. "The moderates want a deal badly, but you still have the hardliners, and I guess the moderates might also fear the hardliners."

Trump also claimed he has the best plan ever to end the war with Iran and reiterated that Iran's response to the new U.S. proposal was completely unacceptable.

"I have a plan. You know, it’s a very simple plan. I don’t understand why you don’t say outright that Iran cannot possess nuclear weapons," he said.

"You know, in wartime you have to adapt. You have to be flexible. You might have many plans, but you have to use different ones each day," Trump said. "But I have an excellent plan, which is that they will not possess nuclear weapons... yet they did not include that in their response."
