Donald Trump affirmed he is 100% confident that Iran will stop enhancing uranium capabilities, even though negotiations between the U.S. and Iran remain at an impasse.
On 12 May 2026, Donald Trump, former U.S. president, said during an interview on the WABC radio program Sid and Friends in the Morning that he is confident Iran will cease uranium enrichment and abandon any nuclear weapons development efforts, despite ongoing deadlock in talks between Washington and Tehran.
"They will definitely stop, 100%," Trump said when asked if he believed it was possible to prevent Iran from enriching uranium and developing missiles.
Trump stated that he was directly involved in negotiations with Iranian officials.
"I dealt with them myself," Trump said. "And they told me we will get that ‘dust.’ I call it nuclear dust because it sounds fitting, and we are going to get it."
Additionally, the president said the U.S. does not need to rush into an agreement. "We’re not rushing anything. We already have a blockade (at sea) in place."
Trump’s latest comments came just one day after he described the ceasefire agreement between the U.S. and Iran as being on "heavy life support" following Tehran’s response to a new U.S. proposal. Trump said he disliked Iran’s reply and found it completely unacceptable.
