A tense incident occurred in Cambridge, USA, when a man used a firearm to open fire at passing cars on a main road near the Charles River, injuring two people and causing chaos.
Officials reported that the gunman continuously fired in the middle of a busy street, prompting many drivers to abandon their vehicles and flee for safety, while some even took cover by lying down beneath their cars as gunshots echoed throughout the area.
Massachusetts prosecutors and police stated that bullets struck at least 12 vehicles, including a state police patrol car. The suspect fired more than 60 rounds during the incident on Monday afternoon.
The incident took place on a major road along the Charles River in Cambridge, home to renowned institutions such as Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). The area is frequently busy with residents, runners, cyclists, and students.
The suspect was identified as Tyler Brown, 46, from Boston. He was shot multiple times in the arms and legs after state police and a nearby former U.S. Marine fired back to stop the attack.
Initially, Brown is facing several serious charges, including two counts of assault with intent to kill using a firearm, along with other firearm-related offenses.
However, Cambridge District Court revealed on Tuesday that the suspect remains injured and is not yet ready for an initial court hearing. A state-appointed public defender has been assigned, and no further statements have been made by the defense so far.
