Trump revealed that Xi Jinping, the President of China, has agreed to purchase up to 200 airplanes from Boeing and also mentioned that the Chinese leader offered to help ease the conflict between the U.S. and Iran.
On 14 May 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump disclosed in an interview with Fox News following the first day of a summit in Beijing, China, that Chinese President Xi Jinping had agreed to buy 200 jets from Boeing, calling it a commitment from the Chinese leader.
"One thing he agreed to today is that he will order 200 jets," Trump said. "From Boeing, yes—200 large planes. That means a massive number of jobs."
Trump also said that Boeing had initially expected fewer orders. "Boeing only wanted 150 planes, but he (Xi Jinping) gave them 200," he added. The president believes Xi Jinping's statement represents a binding commitment by China to proceed with the Boeing purchase.
Earlier, President Donald Trump stated that during Thursday's talks, the Chinese leader offered to help ease tensions between the U.S. and Iran, since China has close relations with the Tehran government and is Iran's largest oil consumer.
"President Xi wants to see an agreement reached. He wants it to happen and has offered by saying, ‘If I can help even a little, I am happy to assist,’" Trump told Fox News reporters. "He wants to see the Strait of Hormuz open."
Many expect that President Trump will push China to pressure Iran into accepting a peace deal and to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping route that has been effectively closed since the conflict began on 28 February.
A U.S. statement said China agrees that the strait "must always remain open" and opposes militarizing the area or imposing tolls, a stance consistent with China's previous statements.
