Trump Claims Xi Jinping Pledged Not to Supply Military Equipment to Iran

Donald Trump claimed that Xi Jinping, President of China, pledged not to provide military equipment to Iran during their talks in Beijing.

On 14 May 2026, President Donald Trump alleged that Xi Jinping, China's President, committed during discussions in Beijing not to send military equipment to Iran amid tensions in the Middle East.

"He said he would not supply military equipment to them (Iran). That is a very important statement. He said this today," Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity in an interview clip, adding that Xi Jinping "emphasized this strongly."

However, Trump noted that Xi Jinping also highlighted the economic relationship between China and Iran, especially in oil trade. Trump said China buys "a large amount" of oil from Iran, and Xi told him that "China intends to continue doing so."

Furthermore, Trump reiterated that Xi Jinping expressed a desire to see the Strait of Hormuz reopened. "He joked, ‘You know, they (Iran) closed it, then you ordered them to stop,’" the Chinese leader reportedly said, also showing displeasure over reports that Iran is charging tolls for passage through the strait.
