Trump and Xi Jinping Hold Second and Final Day of Talks, Focus on Taiwan and Iran War

Donald Trump and Xi Jinping are preparing for the second and final day of talks in Beijing amid close scrutiny of issues including Taiwan, trade, and the Iran war before the U.S. leader returns home.

On 15 May 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to begin their second and final day of bilateral talks in Beijing. The two leaders are expected to emphasize the necessity of maintaining stable relations between the two superpowers amid ongoing tensions over trade, technology, and security.

Reuters reported that Trump and Xi Jinping are scheduled to have tea and lunch at Zhongnanhai, the central headquarters and residence of the top leaders of the Chinese Communist Party. Located near the Forbidden City, Zhongnanhai is a historic site where former U.S. President Richard Nixon met Mao Zedong in 1972 to pave the way for restoring China-U.S. relations.

Earlier, the two leaders spent over two hours discussing at the Great Hall of the People on Thursday, marking Trump's first day in China. Their talks covered sensitive topics including bilateral trade, the conflict between the U.S. and Israel against Iran, and the Taiwan issue, which China considers part of its territory.

During the meeting, Xi Jinping warned that if the Taiwan issue is not properly managed, it could lead to clashes or even conflict between China and the U.S. However, he also emphasized that the two countries should be partners rather than rivals.

Trump is scheduled to conclude his three-day visit to China by Friday afternoon before returning to the U.S. The U.S. delegation accompanying him includes several key figures such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Additionally, several global business leaders are part of the delegation, including Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX; Jensen Huang from Nvidia; Tim Cook from Apple; as well as executives from Boeing, Micron Technology, and Goldman Sachs.

Reports also state that during their meeting on Thursday, Trump invited Xi Jinping and First Lady Peng Liyuan to visit the White House in Washington on 24 September.
