On 18 May 2026, Hurriyet newspaper and CNN Turkish reported a shooting in the Tarsus district of Mersin province in southern Turkey, causing 4 fatalities and 8 injuries.
According to reports, the tragedy began at a restaurant before the suspect fled by car. Police have launched a major manhunt, deploying helicopters to assist in tracking and apprehending the shooter.
Turkish media further reported that two people died inside the restaurant, believed to be the owner and an employee. The gunman then continued firing, killing a shepherd nearby who was grazing animals and a truck driver.
So far, authorities have not disclosed the identity or clear motive of the suspect.
