Trump Adds Over 600 Generic Drugs to TrumpRx Website Aiming to Lower Medication Costs for Americans Before Election

Trump appeals to Americans by announcing an addition of more than 600 drug listings on the U.S. government's affordable medication website, "TrumpRx," before the election, aiming to help address rising healthcare and medication costs.

Trump announced this on Monday, stating that this new drug addition will increase the number of medications on the TrumpRx platform nearly sevenfold from the initial launch in February, which featured over 40 drugs, including popular weight-loss medications Ozempic and Wegovy.

The U.S. government stated that TrumpRx was developed to help people find affordable medications. The website does not sell drugs directly but connects consumers to pharmaceutical companies’ and online pharmacies’ websites, along with discount coupons usable at various pharmacies.

This service expansion comes amid political pressure after Democrats criticized TrumpRx as merely a publicity policy, pointing out that many branded drugs on the site can be purchased cheaper through health insurance or have lower-cost generic alternatives available elsewhere.

Furthermore, healthcare and drug pricing remain major concerns for Americans ahead of the U.S. midterm elections, especially after the Republican-controlled Congress reduced Medicaid budgets and ended subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, causing significant increases in health insurance premiums for some citizens.

Trump revealed that the TrumpRx expansion was made possible through partnerships with several major online pharmacies, including Amazon Pharmacy, GoodRx, and billionaire investor Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs.

During a White House press conference, Trump stated that TrumpRx represents the greatest advance in reducing healthcare costs in modern history and described the platform as the hottest development in the medical field.

Besides TrumpRx, the Trump administration is also promoting other measures to lower drug prices, such as agreements with 17 major pharmaceutical companies to sell drugs at prices comparable to or lower than those in other developed countries.

However, details of these agreements have not been made public, prompting legislators from both parties to call for contract reviews and transparency of the program.
