Son of Mango Founder Detained on Suspicion in Fathers Fatal Cliff Fall Case

The death case of Isak Andic, founder of the global fashion brand Mango, has been reopened after police in Catalonia, Spain, suspected the son might be involved in the billionaire father's fatal cliff fall at the end of 2024.

Jonathan Andic, 45, son of the late Isak Andic who founded the global fashion brand Mango, was detained last Tuesday after authorities reopened the investigation, which had previously been concluded as an accident.

Isak, aged 71, died in December 2024 after falling off a cliff while hiking in the Montserrat mountains near Barcelona, Spain; he was accompanied by his son at the time of the incident.

However, local media reports conflict on whether only the father and son were present during the incident or if other family members were also there.

Previously, Jonathan denied any involvement in his father's death, but police decided to reopen the case after discovering inconsistencies in testimonies, according to La Vanguardia newspaper.

Authorities detained him at his home in the morning, then took him for further questioning; subsequently, the court ordered his release on bail of 1 million euros (around 39 million baht), confiscated his passport, and required weekly court appearances.

A family spokesperson told Reuters that they continue to believe in Jonathan's innocence.

Isak Andic was born in Turkey and co-founded the Mango brand with his brother Nahman Andic in Barcelona in 1984.

Today, Mango operates nearly 3,000 stores across more than 120 countries worldwide, and before his death, Forbes estimated Isak's net worth at approximately 4.5 billion U.S. dollars.

Following his father's death, Jonathan took the position of vice chairman of Mango's board and formerly managed the men's clothing line, Mango Man.

Tony Ruiz, Mango's CEO, said that Isak's passing was a great loss to the fashion industry and emphasized that everyone at the company will continue to uphold the vision he set.
