
A fire broke out at an ancient Buddhist hall in a Japanese temple on Miyajima Island, Hiroshima Prefecture, western Japan, where the "Eternal Flame" has been burning for more than 1,000 years. The building was completely consumed by the fire.
Local police revealed that the fire occurred at Reikado Hall, located near Mount Misen, with the incident reported on Wednesday morning.
Reports state that about 30 firefighters were dispatched to control the situation and successfully extinguished the fire on Thursday, but the building was severely damaged and completely collapsed.
Reikado Hall is part of the Buddhist Daisho-in Temple, famous as the site of the "Eternal Flame," believed to have been first lit by the renowned Japanese monk Kukai, also known as Kobo Daishi, over 1,200 years ago.
According to local legend, the flame has been continuously maintained for centuries and is considered an important religious and historical symbol of the area.
There are currently no reports of injuries, and authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
