A commotion erupted at an Australian airport when officials ordered an evacuation and summoned bomb disposal units to investigate a suspicious item found during luggage scanning. It was eventually determined to be merely a hair removal laser device.
Victoria Police revealed the incident occurred early on Thursday morning, 21 May, after security personnel detected a suspicious device on the baggage conveyor belt. They immediately contacted bomb disposal experts to investigate, following safety protocols.
After thorough inspection, bomb disposal experts confirmed the item was a hair removal laser device, posing no danger.
Acting Inspector Nick Ubergang stated that besides the hair removal laser, a container of hot chocolate was also found in the same luggage. Initially, the luggage owner was uncooperative with officials, which heightened tensions.
The incident caused multiple flights to be delayed or temporarily canceled. However, the man who owned the luggage was not charged, and the airport later resumed normal operations.
Avalon Airport issued a statement confirming that the item no longer posed a threat. They emphasized that the incident highlights the strictness of security and passenger screening systems to ensure the utmost safety for the public and staff.
