Donald Trump revealed that the United States will not rush into a deal with Iran because time is on the U.S. side, and he also noted that relations with Iran are improving.
On 24 May 2026, Donald Trump, President of the United States, stated that America would not "rush" into a deal with Iran. He added that U.S. operations to blockade Iranian ports will remain "fully enforced" until an agreement is reached.
"The negotiations are proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner, and I have informed my representatives there is no need to rush the deal because time is on our side," Trump posted on Truth Social on Sunday morning local time. "Both sides need to take their time and do it right—there must be no mistakes! Our relationship with Iran is becoming more professional and yielding better results."
Trump reiterated that Iran must understand that "they cannot develop or acquire nuclear weapons or nuclear bombs."
Trump’s latest statement came a day after he said that the deal between the U.S. and Iran was "mostly negotiated," and that the Strait of Hormuz would be reopened, signaling a positive trend toward ending the months-long conflict.
Trump added that the final details are still being prepared but will be announced "soon."
Meanwhile, Iran also stated that negotiations are progressing but emphasized this does not mean an agreement will be reached soon. They denied Trump’s claim about reopening the Strait of Hormuz, affirming that the vital shipping route will remain under Iranian control.
