Bomb Attack on Pakistan Military Transport Train Kills 24, Injures Dozens

A car bomb exploded targeting a train in Pakistan transporting military personnel, resulting in 24 deaths and dozens of injuries. A local armed group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

On 24 May 2026, a senior Pakistani official revealed that a car bomb targeted a military personnel train in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province in southwestern Pakistan, killing at least 24 people, including military personnel, and injuring more than 50 others.

Images from the scene showed a heavily damaged, overturned train carriage as people climbed over the wreckage searching for survivors. Others were seen helping bloodied victims onto stretchers to evacuate them from the derailed carriage, while armed security forces stood guard around the area.

Officials told AFP that the train was transporting military personnel and their family members from Quetta to Peshawar in northwestern Pakistan.

"The train was passing a signal in the Chaman Pattak area of Quetta when a car bomb rammed into one of the carriages, causing a powerful explosion," an official said. The blast shattered windows and severely damaged nearby vehicles.

Another official informed AFP that the military personnel were traveling to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the festival scheduled to begin this Tuesday.

The Baloch Liberation Army, a separatist armed group, issued a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, describing it as a suicide bombing.
