Tragic Accident: Vehicle Hits Elephant in Uganda Park, 3 Dead and 4 Injured

A vehicle collided with a wild elephant in a national park in Uganda, resulting in three deaths and four injuries. There has been no information released about the condition of the elephant involved.

Foreign news agencies reported that a vehicle carrying officials from the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) struck an elephant inside Murchison Falls National Park in northwestern Uganda, causing three fatalities and four injuries.

Uganda Police shared via the X platform that the vehicle was traveling from the city of Arua to return to Kampala, the capital city, when the collision occurred.

The injured were urgently taken to a local hospital and later transferred to Kampala for further treatment. However, officials did not provide details about the condition or status of the elephant struck by the vehicle.

Road accidents are common in Uganda, and incidents involving wildlife and humans are increasing due to expanding communities encroaching on protected wildlife areas.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has urged drivers to exercise increased caution to watch for animals crossing roads. “We strongly advise road users traveling through protected areas to drive carefully, as wild animals frequently cross the roads,” they stated.
