Philippine authorities have ended the search for survivors in the building collapse in Angeles City and will shift to recovery operations on Tuesday. It is believed that 12 people remain buried under the debris.
The Philippine Disaster Relief officials revealed late Monday night, 25 May 2026 local time, that they have concluded a two-day rescue operation searching for at least 12 victims believed trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building in Angeles City, northern Philippines.
So far, authorities have recovered four bodies, including one Malaysian man and two construction workers trapped inside the rubble of a nine-story condominium project that collapsed onto a nearby hotel in Angeles City on the morning of Sunday, 24 May.
Earlier on Monday, hope for survivors arose when heat sensors detected what rescuers described as “signs of life” in one area of the wreckage. However, Maria Leah Sajili, spokesperson for the regional fire office, later disclosed that no additional survivors or bodies were found.
She told reporters that the rescue operation officially ended Monday night and the search was suspended overnight before transitioning to a “body recovery operation” on Tuesday.
The Malaysian man, a hotel guest, and two construction workers were found alive under the rubble on Sunday but all three died before rescuers could extract them. The identity of the fourth confirmed fatality remains unknown.
Ms. Sajili added that initial reports listed 17 missing persons in the collapse, but one missing person contacted authorities Monday to confirm they were not in the area at the time, reducing the missing count to 16. Of these, four have been confirmed dead.
