Israel built a greenhouse and upgraded the agricultural water system as the first activity celebrating the 72nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Israel and Thailand at the Mercy Farm Sufficiency Economy Learning Center.
On the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of diplomatic relations between Israel and Thailand, the Embassy of Israel in Thailand organized a joint celebration by constructing a greenhouse and improving the agricultural water system at the Mercy Farm Sufficiency Economy Learning Center on Krungthep Kreetha Road, Bangkok, under the Foundation for the Promotion of Human Development (Mercy Home).
The Mercy Farm project began in 2006 under the care of Father Joseph H. Meyer to develop and support children and youth residing at Mercy Home, most of whom are disadvantaged with difficult backgrounds—whether poverty from fragile families or needing educational and emotional support. Mercy Farm serves as a safe space conducive to healing, where children learn agricultural life skills to stand independently with pride in society, living according to the philosophy of "Sufficiency Economy" inspired by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great.
The Embassy of Israel recognizes that developing children both physically and mentally is a fundamental foundation for a strong society that enables everyone to participate. Therefore, it initiated cooperation projects in various fields, organizing diverse activities in education, social services, and entertainment to continuously support Mercy Center for over two decades. In 2016, the embassy donated Israeli-developed drip irrigation equipment to Mercy Farm and sent experts to share agricultural technology knowledge, teaching children and youth how to use water efficiently and grow suitable kitchen vegetables. This helps them grow into quality adults through natural and agricultural methods, resulting in produce that meets the needs of Mercy Home members and the center, with surplus sold to nearby communities.
This year, the Embassy of Israel restored the drip irrigation system to full working condition and built an additional greenhouse to enable year-round kitchen vegetable cultivation, managing water efficiently and protecting crops from constantly changing weather conditions.
This project transforms technology into opportunity and agriculture into learning, fostering collaboration that strengthens the bond between the peoples of both countries, united in their commitment to help children develop and live well, growing into confident, dignified, and proud adults.
"This cooperation reflects Israel’s belief that education is a tool that empowers children through innovation and hands-on skill-building," said Dr. Alona Fisher-Kamm, Ambassador of Israel to Thailand.
"We hope that sharing agricultural knowledge and technology will nurture Mercy Farm members to be confident and self-reliant. This project symbolizes the genuine, enduring friendship between Israel and Thailand over 72 years, founded on our shared hope for our children’s future."
