Donald Trump has undergone his annual health check-up just days before his 80th birthday, amid increasing questions about his health.
On Tuesday, 26 May 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump underwent his annual physical examination amid rising speculation regarding his health, just days before his 80th birthday.
Donald Trump is the oldest president in U.S. history to be inaugurated and has often boasted about his physical and mental strength, especially in comparison to Joe Biden, the former Democratic president whose health issues led him to withdraw from the most recent election.
However, Trump's physical and dental check-up at Walter Reed Military Hospital near Washington took place after concerns emerged about his apparent drowsiness during meetings and bruises visible on his hands.
An AFP reporter traveling with the presidential motorcade reported that Trump arrived at the hospital around 08:50 a.m. local time on Tuesday. His daily schedule indicated a policy meeting at the White House at 1:30 p.m. the same day, with the Iran war being a top agenda item.
Typically, the White House releases a summary of the president’s physical exam results within hours or days, but the scope of details disclosed is at the sole discretion of the White House.
Trump will turn 80 on 14 June, coinciding with a UFC cage fight event on the White House lawn, expected to attract thousands of spectators.
Trump has long faced criticism over a lack of transparency regarding his health. Last year, he had two physical exams: a scheduled one in April and an unannounced hospital visit in October, which fueled rumors about his health.
Last summer, the White House revealed that Trump was assessed for swollen legs and diagnosed with chronic peripheral venous insufficiency, a common condition caused by malfunctioning venous valves leading to blood pooling, swelling, cramps, and skin changes.
This disclosure came after observations of frequent ankle swelling in Trump.
Since returning to the White House in 2025, Trump has often appeared with bruises on his right hand, usually concealed with makeup. The White House explained these bruises resulted from aspirin use, part of a "standard" cardiovascular health care regimen.
After the October physical exam, Trump stated that his MRI results showed his cardiovascular health was "excellent."
Meanwhile, Commander Dr. Sean Barbasella, Trump’s U.S. Navy physician, said in a letter released by the White House that Trump’s heart age was found to be about 14 years younger than his chronological age.
