Trump Says No Rush to Make Iran Deal, Unconcerned About Midterm Elections

Donald Trump said the U.S. will not rush into an agreement with Iran because he is not concerned about pressure from the midterm elections, and he is prepared to use force again if the deal does not succeed.

On Wednesday, 27 May 2026, U.S. President Donald Trump announced he would push for a favorable deal to end the war with Iran. He warned that Tehran's attempts to delay until he leaves office will never succeed because "I don't care about the midterm elections."

"They think they'll just wait for my term to end, right? They think they can stall because the midterm elections are coming," Trump said during a Cabinet meeting, dismissing concerns about the domestic political impact of the conflict.

"I don't care about the midterms. Look at what happened last night—that was the prelude to the midterms. The people understand this well," he said, referring to his endorsed candidate's victory in the Republican primary runoff for the Texas Senate seat.

President Trump also expressed confidence that the U.S. would soon reach a deal to end the conflict. However, he warned that his administration remains dissatisfied with current terms and is ready to resume fighting if their demands are not met.

"We're not happy with this deal yet, but we probably will be," Trump said. "If not, we'll just have to go back and take care of it until it's done."

He also cited the restoration of internet access in Iran as a sign that the Iranian government's hardline stance is weakening, claiming, "Their entire economy is collapsing," and added, "They just want to make a deal. I don't think they have any other choice."
