Trump Admits Dissatisfaction with Iran Talks, Signals U.S. Has Other Options

Donald Trump admitted that peace negotiations with Iran are still unresolved despite initial progress, while the White House denied reports of a draft agreement concerning the Strait of Hormuz, calling them false information.

On 28 May 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump revealed he remains unsatisfied with the results of talks with Iran, and that both sides have yet to reach an agreement to end the Middle East conflict. During a cabinet meeting, Trump said that although discussions have begun to show progress and Iran is increasingly accepting some proposals, it is still too early to conclude the talks will succeed.

At the same time, Trump emphasized that if diplomacy cannot advance, the U.S. still has other options on the table. The U.S. leader reaffirmed that Iran will not be allowed to control the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route.

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that diplomacy remains the administration’s primary approach but warned that if negotiations stall, the president has alternative responses available to address the situation.

Earlier, Iranian state media reported receiving a draft memorandum of understanding between the U.S. and Iran, covering the restoration of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, easing sanctions on Iranian cargo ships, and the possibility of adjusting U.S. military forces in the region. However, the White House immediately denied this report, stating it was entirely fabricated and untrue.
