The South Korean military held a large-scale live-fire exercise in Pocheon, in the northern region of the country, to showcase the readiness and joint operational capabilities of its forces amid ongoing security tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
This exercise involved as many as 457 pieces of military equipment, covering both ground and air forces. Key weapons displayed included the K2 Black Panther main battle tank, K9 self-propelled howitzers, multiple rocket launchers, attack helicopters, and the KF-21 fighter jet, a new combat aircraft developed domestically by South Korea.
Approximately 1,900 people attended the event, including security officials, military personnel, and observers, marking one of South Korea's largest military demonstrations in recent times.
The South Korean Ministry of National Defense stated that the exercise focused on demonstrating the country's commitment to self-reliant national defense based on its own military capabilities, emphasizing the armed forces' ability to respond to modern threats.
Additionally, the exercise served to test and evaluate the operational performance of advanced weapons systems and military technologies developed by South Korea's defense industry.
The Ministry also said that making the exercise public and accessible to the media aimed to show both domestic and international audiences the proven capabilities of South Korea's domestically produced weaponry. In recent years, South Korea has been actively promoting itself as a significant global arms exporter.
South Korea's military equipment, such as the K2 tank and K9 self-propelled howitzer, has attracted attention from several countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia due to their advanced technology, modern features, and high domestic production capacity.
This exercise also reflects the South Korean government's efforts to strengthen military capabilities amid regional security concerns, particularly regarding North Korea's ongoing weapons and missile development programs.
