Israel Launches New Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon Following Evacuation Orders

Lebanese leaders have condemned Israel for launching a new round of airstrikes in the southern part of the country after issuing evacuation orders for residents in several areas.

On 30 May 2026, the Lebanese Prime Minister accused Israel of implementing a "scorched-earth policy" in the southern regions of Lebanon, while calling for an end to hostilities, as Israel continued its new wave of airstrikes and ordered evacuations in more than ten locations.

This latest development occurred just one day after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that his forces had advanced further into Lebanon.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam stated in a televised address that Israel is "pursuing a scorched-earth and collective punishment policy" by "destroying cities and villages and forcing residents to flee."

He emphasized that such actions would bring neither "security nor stability" to Israel, warning that the country is facing a "dangerous" escalation of violence and calling for a swift and genuine ceasefire.

Nevertheless, Salam defended his government's ongoing negotiations with Israel following talks in Washington, D.C., last Friday, with another round of discussions planned for next week amid opposition from Hezbollah, which has been targeted by Israeli attacks.

Salam said the outcome of the negotiations is "still uncertain" but described them as "the option that causes the least harm to our country and people."
