Iran Suspends Talks with U.S. to Protest Israels Continued Attacks on Lebanon

Iran has temporarily suspended negotiations with the United States to protest Israel's continued attacks on Lebanon, which Iran considers a breach of the ceasefire agreement, and is preparing plans to close the Strait of Hormuz.

On 1 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Tasnim News Agency, a semi-official Iranian outlet, reported that Iranian authorities have suspended talks with the U.S. in protest against Israel's ongoing military operations in Lebanon, despite Iran’s consistent calls to include Lebanon in the ceasefire agreement.

“Due to Israel’s continued attacks in Lebanon, and considering that Lebanon was one of the initial conditions for the ceasefire agreement—which is now being violated on all fronts, including Lebanon— the Iranian negotiating team has decided to suspend negotiations and the exchange of documents through intermediaries,” the statement said.

Tasnim further reported that Iran demands Israel immediately end its wars in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon and withdraw all troops from Lebanon. It added that as long as Iran’s and allied opposition groups’ conditions remain unmet, “no negotiations will take place.”

Additionally, Tasnim stated that the Tehran government and allied armed groups in the region have included plans for "a complete closure of the Strait of Hormuz and opening other fronts" in their agenda, which also involves the Bab el-Mandeb Strait at the southern end of the Red Sea, previously targeted by Houthi rebels in Yemen who attacked various cargo ships.

Earlier on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the military to strike the Dahieh district, a southern suburb of Beirut, Lebanon’s capital, which is a stronghold of Hezbollah. An Israeli official claimed that the attack plan was coordinated with the United States.
