Trump Affirms Peace Talks Continue Despite Iranian Media Reports

Donald Trump posted a message confirming that negotiations with Iran are still ongoing, despite earlier reports by Iranian media claiming Tehran's minister had suspended talks in protest of Israel's attacks on Lebanon.

On 1 Jun 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social that negotiations with Iran are continuing, even though Iranian government media had earlier claimed on the same day that Tehran's government had suspended talks in protest of Israel's strikes on Lebanon.

"Negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are continuing—and swiftly," Trump's post stated.

Trump and his administration have consistently said they often receive conflicting messages from Iran between what Iran publicly announces and what is communicated privately.

Earlier, Donald Trump stated that Iran had not officially notified the U.S. about suspending talks, and he recently posted that he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and leaders of Lebanon's Hezbollah group, with both sides agreeing not to attack each other, while Israel would not deploy troops to Beirut.

"I have had a very productive phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu, and no military forces will be sent to Beirut. Any forces en route have been ordered to turn back," Trump's earlier post said.

"Similarly, I have had very smooth talks with Hezbollah through senior representatives, and they agreed that all retaliatory fire will cease—Israel will not attack them, and they will not attack Israel."
