Israel launched a new wave of strikes in southern Lebanon, killing 9 people, while Hezbollah fired rockets across the border into Israel, despite a recent partial ceasefire agreement between the two sides.
On 3 June 2026, Lebanese authorities reported that the latest Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon had killed at least 9 people. Meanwhile, Hezbollah, an Iran-backed armed group, said they fired across the border into northern Israel.
Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health stated that among the dead were two emergency medical personnel whose ambulance in the Chehour area in southern Lebanon was targeted. There were also reports of a car attacked south of Beirut.
The Israeli military said it intercepted one drone and two missiles fired across the border. Hezbollah said their attack targeted locations where Israeli troops had gathered.
This incident tests the partial ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah reached just last Monday. Lebanon said under the deal, Israel would halt bombings over Beirut, while Hezbollah would stop attacks on Israel.
Meanwhile, Israeli and Lebanese delegations held a second day of talks in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday to discuss ways to strengthen security provisions of the agreement.
Lebanon was drawn into the war between the U.S., Israel, and Iran on 2 March after Hezbollah began firing rockets into Israel to avenge the killing of Iran’s supreme leader in an Israeli and U.S. airstrike. Israel responded with airstrikes and ground forces in the south.
Israel and Lebanon had reached a previous ceasefire on 16 April mediated by the U.S., but it failed to stop the fighting. Israel escalated attacks and expanded military operations, prompting Iran to suspend negotiations with the U.S. last Monday.
Following Iran’s move, U.S. President Donald Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who then tweeted that Israeli leaders agreed not to send troops into Beirut, while Hezbollah leaders agreed not to attack Israel. However, fighting between the two sides has continued.
