Dubai's Public Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the former wife of the Dubai ruler's grandson has been detained following her lawyer's revelation that she disappeared with her three children.
On Thursday, 4 Jun 2026 GMT+7, Dubai's Public Prosecutor's Office told BBC News that Zeynab Javadli, the former wife of the Dubai ruler's grandson, has been detained after authorities received a complaint from Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, her ex-husband and father of her three children.
Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum accused his former wife of abducting the children during court-approved visitation periods.
Previously, Javadli's family and friends lost contact with her since Tuesday night and revealed her and her three children's mysterious disappearance after nearly two full days without any news of their whereabouts.
Over the past several months, Javadli rarely left home, fearing security officials would intercept her to take her children away and arrest her.
A year ago, Javadli's ex-husband filed a police report accusing her of abducting their daughter.
This incident occurred amid a fierce custody battle between the two, with the children shuttling between parents multiple times and each accusing the other of child abduction.
However, in a statement on Thursday evening, Dubai's Public Prosecutor's Office said the case remains under investigation and is proceeding through the legal process.
"We will take all necessary legal measures in accordance with existing laws, while ensuring the welfare and best interests of the children," the statement said.
Meanwhile, David Haigh, lawyer and advocate for Javadli's rights, called on the United Arab Emirates to allow Javadli immediate access to legal counsel, consular services, and her family, and requested her release to return to her residence in Dubai.
