Israel attacked a vehicle in southern Lebanon, resulting in the deaths of one general and two soldiers. Israel claimed the attack was because the vehicle appeared suspicious.
On Saturday, 7 Jun 2026 GMT+7, the Lebanese army revealed that Israel's "aggressive and brutal" attack on a vehicle transporting military personnel in southern Lebanon caused the deaths of a lieutenant general, a captain, and a private.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) acknowledged firing on the vehicle but claimed it "moved suspiciously toward their forces" and that gunfire had been reported in the area. The IDF said it has initiated an investigation to establish the facts of the incident.
However, the Lebanese army responded angrily to the attack, describing it as brutal, deliberate, and repetitive. They also shared images of the vehicle's charred remains on a road outside a village.
Israel has been engaged in intense fighting with Hezbollah, an armed group in Lebanon, since March, with the main conflict zone in southern Lebanon where the Iranian-backed militant group has launched rockets and drones into northern Israel.
Nonetheless, Israel has no direct conflict with the Lebanese government and military, which are currently negotiating with Israel to reach a ceasefire agreement.
The latest attack occurred on a road near the village of Kfar Tebnit, about 4 miles north of the Litani River and close to the city of Nabatieh, an area that has seen intense fighting and civilian displacement in recent months.
The fatalities have been identified as Lieutenant General Zamer Sabra, Captain Eli Kuri, and Private Hassan Qazzal.
