The US military revealed that they have launched a new round of attacks on targets in Iran as retaliation for Iran shooting down a US Apache helicopter.
On Tuesday, 9 Jun 2026 GMT+7, the United States Central Command (Centcom) disclosed via a social media post that the US launched a new wave of attacks against Iran on Tuesday evening, just hours after President Donald Trump accused Iran of shooting down a US Apache helicopter and vowed a response.
The statement said the attacks began at 17:00 Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) and were “in response to the incident yesterday in which a US Army Apache helicopter was shot down” near the coast of Oman. The command described the strikes as an act of self-defense.
A US official told CNN that this new round of attacks aimed to warn Iran, and the US believes the action will not hinder negotiations to end the conflict. Meanwhile, the Central Command's post described the strikes as a “proportionate response to Iran's unreasonable aggression.”
Sources close to the incident revealed that an Iranian Shahed drone collided with the US helicopter on Monday. However, a US official told CNN it remains unclear whether the drone deliberately targeted the Apache or if the crash was an accident that caused the helicopter to go down.
According to a post by President Donald Trump, both pilots of the helicopter were unharmed and were rescued by a US unmanned drone vessel.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi neither confirmed nor denied the helicopter being shot down but stated on Tuesday that foreign forces near Iranian territory face “constant risks due to human error, common accidents, or the possibility of being caught amid clashes.”
“To reduce these risks, the best solution is for them [foreign forces] to leave,” he posted on the platform X.
