Donald Trump told local media that the US retaliation against Iran, which shot down a US helicopter, was intense. Meanwhile, Iran claimed it had launched missiles and sent drones to attack the US.
On Tuesday, 9 Jun 2026 GMT+7, US President Donald Trump told local reporters that the US response to Iran shooting down an Apache military helicopter was "severe and very powerful."
“I think it’s very important that we respond. They shot down our helicopter, and we are responding right now as we speak,” Trump told Jonathan Karl, a reporter from ABC News, who said he spoke with Trump by phone as the US Central Command announced the start of the strikes.
“This is a response to what they did, what they did to our helicopter last night (Monday), and I believe the response should be severe and very powerful, and this attack is exactly that,” Trump said.
However, earlier on Tuesday, Trump told the Wall Street Journal that the helicopter being shot down was "not a big deal," but he stated on Truth Social that "the US has a very strong need to respond to this attack."
Meanwhile, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) revealed in a Telegram post early Wednesday local time that Iran had launched missile strikes and sent drones targeting various US assets in the region.
At the same time, Tasnim News Agency, a semi-official Iranian outlet, reported explosions in the cities of Sirik, Minab, and on Qeshm Island, but did not specify whether there was any damage.
