North Korea Ends Visit on a Positive Note, Reveals Long-Term Strategic Plan Between Leaders to Advance Relations

North Korea revealed that discussions between the leaders of North Korea and China resulted in a long-term strategic plan to develop relations between the two countries, amid close attention to China's renewed role with its longtime ally Pyongyang.

North Korea disclosed that the talks between its leader and the Chinese president led to the establishment of a long-term strategic plan aimed at enhancing relations between the two nations, against the backdrop of shifting global geopolitics and power competition among major powers.

According to a report on 10 June by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of their discussions, noting that both sides have set key directions for the future development of their relationship.

This announcement followed Xi Jinping’s visit to Pyongyang on Monday, marking a significant trip by the Chinese leader to North Korea. Previously, Xi had welcomed several world leaders in Beijing, including U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During the two-day visit, the leaders of China and North Korea reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening revolutionary friendship and comradeship, while promoting China-North Korea relations into a stronger strategic partnership.

Beyond political talks, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un visited a training school for senior officials of the North Korean Workers' Party, discussing party personnel development. They also jointly planted a commemorative tree and visited the Friendship Tower, built to honor Chinese soldiers who participated in the Korean War.

After the visit, Xi Jinping sent a letter of thanks to Kim Jong Un, stating that both sides engaged in deep exchanges on issues of mutual interest and reached shared understandings on various matters.

This development occurs as North Korea is increasing cooperation with Russia; Pyongyang has sent troops to assist Russia in the Ukraine war and continues to advance its own nuclear weapons program.
