Indonesian police arrested a brutal son-in-law who poisoned his mother-in-law by sending her chicken satay coated with poison to her home, citing dissatisfaction at being insulted.
Police identified the suspect as Perwadi Wahyudi, 40, accused of ordering chicken satay on 18 May, then dipping it in a harmful chemical before sending it via a food delivery service to the victim's home in Central Java province.
Initially, police believe the motive stemmed from the suspect's resentment over feeling disrespected by his mother-in-law, though he has not yet been formally charged with murder.
The case gained wide attention after the family of the 57-year-old woman, identified only as Aminah, grew suspicious when she died under unnatural circumstances.
Aminah's youngest daughter told police that before her death, her mother received chicken satay from an unknown person, which she herself had not ordered and had warned her mother not to eat.
The next day, relatives found Aminah's body at home, surrounded by vomit stains, prompting police to investigate and later exhume the body for examination.
Forensic tests detected poison in several vital organs, including traces of hazardous chemicals, leading police to classify the case as a homicide.
Investigators said the plan was carefully orchestrated, with the suspect disguising himself as the victim's daughter, using her name and photo on a food delivery app to order the chicken satay.
However, the delivery rider became suspicious because the order was expected for a woman, but a man received the food. Additionally, the satay vendor reported that the food's packaging had been changed en route before reaching the victim.
If charged and convicted of murder, the suspect could face the death penalty or a minimum 20-year prison sentence under Indonesian law.
