Trump Says Iran Took Too Long in Negotiations, Now Must Pay the Price

Donald Trump posted a message criticizing Iran for taking too long in negotiations and declared that they must now pay the price, amid renewed tensions after both sides exchanged retaliatory attacks again on Tuesday.

On 10 Jun 2026 GMT+7, U.S. President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social stating that Iran took too long negotiating an agreement and must now pay the price, while Tehran’s government said it would reassess its diplomatic engagement with Washington following the recent tit-for-tat attacks overnight.

These developments came after the U.S. launched a new round of strikes in Iran on Tuesday night in response to Iran shooting down a U.S. Apache helicopter, while Iran retaliated by attacking U.S. bases in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

"Iran just talks but does nothing," Trump posted. "They took too long negotiating a deal that would have greatly benefited them, and now they will have to pay!!!" However, Trump did not specify how Iran would be made to pay.

Meanwhile, Fox News reported on Wednesday, citing a phone interview with the U.S. president, that he might order additional strikes on Iranian power plants and bridges because Tehran took too long to reach an agreement.

Global oil prices surged immediately after Trump’s post, with Brent crude futures rising $1.74, or 1.9%, to $93.19 per barrel at 11:27 GMT, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude climbed $1.91, or 2.17%, to $90.11 per barrel.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Bagaei said Tehran would reassess its diplomatic engagement with Washington following what Iran called multiple violations of the ceasefire agreement.

"Any diplomatic process requires at least a minimal stable environment," Bagaei said.
