Pakistan launched airstrikes along the Afghan border, causing dozens of deaths. The strikes targeted militant bases accused of launching attacks inside their territory.
On Wednesday, 10 Jun 2026 GMT+7, the Pakistan military began airstrikes along the border with Afghanistan, resulting in dozens of deaths and disrupting the fragile peace that had lasted for months in this unstable region.
Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan's Minister of Information, stated that 26 militants were killed in a "precise attack" aimed at four targets. Meanwhile, Afghanistan's Taliban government reported 13 deaths, mostly children, from Pakistan's strikes in three provinces.
Pakistan has long accused Afghanistan of harboring militants who launch attacks inside Pakistan, while the Taliban government has consistently denied these allegations.
The two countries engaged in intense clashes for several weeks in mid-2025 until reaching a ceasefire agreement in October that year under pressure from the United States.
However, Pakistan and Afghanistan have continued sporadic clashes, including in February this year, which caused dozens of deaths. In March, Pakistan attacked a drug rehabilitation center in Kabul, killing hundreds.
Tarar said Wednesday's attack was in retaliation for recent terrorist incidents in Pakistan. It targeted militant hideouts along the Afghan border, including training centers and weapons caches.
This latest Pakistani strike came just one day after Pakistani security forces were attacked near Peshawar, killing six police officers.
